Obituary

For Mom Christina Glarentzos

Christina was born In Vresthena Sparta, oldest of 3 sisters, Maria, Voula and daughter of Eleni Stammatopoulos and Panagiotis Moschoritis.

Moms beautiful mountainous village of Vresthena is located just 20 kilometers from Sparta. Mom had loving parents growing up as child but sadly had seen her mom passed away when she was only 12 years old during the WW2 German occupation of Greece. Mom was forced to grow up very fast with the support of her aunt, dad and became an instant great leader and supporter for her younger sisters. After the war, mom and her family moved to a large beautiful Greek town named Egion and began to learn the profession of becoming a professional seamstress.

Mom developed great Spartan strength and energy as a young girl and protected her family with great determination and will. Mom developed her strong moral, ethical character early in life, hardworking, honest, truthful, caring, great empathy for the unfortunate, responsible, generous, classy, charming, very straightforward with people, enjoyed life ,very religious with great faith in God and hope in life.

Mom was very poor when she came to Montreal Canada with her now husband George in 1958 to start a new life. Mom became a top professional seamstress in fashion industry and was extremely hard working and top rated in her profession. Mom then moved to Toronto and married her husband George. Mom also did not leave behind her sisters in Greece as she brought Voula and Maria to Canada and did a great job of being a mentor and mother to them. Mom and dad were hard working and developed a family soon after with 2 great loving children in Peter and Evangelia. Mom was always very proud of her children and protected, loved, guided and supported them like no other mother. Mom sacrificed for her family and was able to quickly buy a building on Clinton and continued to buy properties in the future.

Mom played a major in the Greek Community for many years and not only was a committed church goer but also bought a church with relatives, Agia Triatha priest Papazakos. Mom showed her great big heart, love and caring through the church and also supported her sisters in developing their successful new lives in Canada.

Mom proudly watched her children grow up and always watched out for them as adults. Mom always provided her children with words of guidance and encouragement including “may the dirt you touch turn into gold” and always “pray to god to be with you” and will continue to do so in her spirit. Mom’s great love and caring for her husband George throughout their 60 years of marriage will also continue in great spirit.
Mom will be very sorely missed as she played a strong leadership, loving and caring role for so many people in her life. Mom greatly enriched the lives of other people who were fortunate to know her and will always be very lovingly and fondly remembered, respected and honored. Moms loving spirit will remain strong with her family, relatives, friends and the other lives she touched.

Mom….Peter, George, Maria, Voula and Evangelia thank you for so very much and being such a big part of our lives with your boundless love, big heart , loving spirit, strength and compassion . We will continue to honor you mom in life and heaven.

We wish you mom to rest in peace with God who loves you so much. Mom we know your mother and father loved you so much and now you will be very happy to see them in heaven again.

Mom we look forward to seeing you soon with your great spirit, heart of gold and great love so that we can continue to have very happy loving times again.

God bless you mom.

Love your son Peter, husband George and sisters Maria & Voula.

Mom, dad and Levendi at Second cup at Mall,

Often we would take mom over the recent years to the dentist at the Mall. Afterwards I always ordered mom from the Second Cup a coffee with milk only and she usually enjoyed a muffin or chocolate biscoti!

We would sit and have great conversations and truly it became one of mom's favourite spots to relax and get our of the house. Great memories talking about all sorts of topics and of course shopping things mom needed while she sat at cafe. Mom would say often how proud she was of how she brought her sisters to Canada and spoke very proudly of her family...lovingly and with often a great smile.
These were precious moments that I will never forget:) I always enjoyed getting mom get out of the house over the winter season and feel warm and cozy , happy at the Mall!

You will forever in our hearts, souls, thoughts every day mom...we really, really miss you and yearn to see you once again enjoy a coffee and muffin at the Second Cup

Mom the disciplinarian and always loving, caring mother story

When I was in high school in the great neighborhood of Don Mills that mom moved us too, I was a regular sports jock and partook in some high school sports parties including a memorable rugby team party. Now mom would always wait for me to return home after social gatherings at school and all went quite well except for the rugby party where I had for some crazy reason decided to jump in a bathtub full of beer?!!? I was late returning home but got home safe and mom knew I was home and I went straight to bed. Unwittingly I had left my beer soaked rugby jersey in the hallway.

Then early next morning, it was mom and not dad, who woke me up in my bedroom, abruptly opening the blinds . As I woke up I immediately realized that I had left the beer soaked jersey on the living room carpet...mom was rightly mad and immediately shouted to get up. Mom then made it very clear that she had come to Canada and worked extremely hard for her family and kids and did not do this so I would lead a life of partying!! And when mom spoke English to me, I always paid very close attention and remember " Peter...I work hard all of my life not for you make a life to party!!!!" I listened and mom forgave but she made a positive influence again on me where she guided me as a teenager where I focused more on studies than sports parties!

Mom you guided, ,mentored, supported, protected me so incredibly well with all your heart and I could never put in words how thankful and lucky I was to have you!!!

From the bottom of heart and soul, thank you mom and you are so, so missed and I carry you with me everyday but grieve deeply at you not being on my side....

Eternal love always, your extremely lucky son
Peter

The natural super seamstress fashion Queen, Mom and sister Maria story,
In Montreal , mom and her sister Maria worked as professional seamstresses. Maria would learn from Christina the trade and mom was always very patient with her younger sister. Maria said that mom was so skilled , a natural and extremely fast learner.

Often, mom would be given a shirt or a suit for the first time to design and create and she would need no practice or training...right away mom would on her first try create her first mens shirts, suits, and even coats!!! Maria was amazed at how her sister would pick up on difficult jobs and get them done perfectly first time.

Moms reputation became further know when she moved to Toronto and was always in the greatest demand by many fashion companies....Maria would always say mom was the hardest working and most skilled in her trade...bravo mom!!

Mom would even after stopping her seamstress trade would always be the best judge on the quality of work done on clothing that her family or relatives bought...she would for clothing what you ever pay, if high price, dont cry over it as the best quality clothes were best choice and would always last many years!! I learned this from mom and she would always provide the professional opinion and quality of clothes we bought!!

Thank you so much mom and sister for helping us to learn how to dress well and classy!

Mom and the Xilalonia in Egion Greece....

As a child, mom and her sisters would always go with their to the beautiful town square called Xilalonia in Egion. The Xilalonia has a beautiful vast view of the the ocean , mountains and beaches in the town and was the favourite place for mom to go for a walk and share great fun times with her family and friends!!

Mom and sister Maria would often sit on the benches that faced the sea and mountains and they often enjoyed many conversations and ice creams! With their dad they would sometimes have an ouzo in water as he would encourage his daughters to enjoy the shows and plays that would go on and also to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries. In the later years son Peter and mom and dad with relatives would visit the Xilalonia and a great tradition carried on!! Mom and I one year went to the Xilalonia 14 times on a trip and every time seemed like the first as there were always new activities and things to see and enjoy! Sitting with mom on the same benches she sat on as a kid is a priceless and loving eternal experience :) I will never forget these beautiful moments we shared...

Mom we will always have you in our hearts, spirits, souls and minds each day and for eternity... we all talk about the great moments we had with you and hope to see you again one day sitting on the same bench enjoying the view together again :)
